Who's Who in Training

The GP training programme is led by the Lead Training Programme Director (LTPD), Dr Natalie Hawkrigg. She has a team of 6 Training Programme Directors (TPDs) across both teaching sites and 1 full time Programme Support Officer (PSO). This team manages the training programme as a whole, having direct responsibility for developing and managing the training programme administratively as well as educationally, under the auspices of NHS England Education. The programme team manages regional teaching and Post Graduate Doctor in Training support as well as co-ordinating hospital and general practice based clinical training for GP Post Graduate Doctors in Training.

During each post, you will have a Clinical Supervisor (CS). Your CS will be responsible for ensuring that appropriate clinical supervision of your day-to-day clinical performance always occurs. In addition, your CS will:

  • meet with you regularly throughout the placement.
  • provide feedback which may be obtained by direct observation and from gathering the views of others working with you.
  • undertake some of your required assessments.
  • review your portfolio entries.
  • complete a CSR
  • complete a PDP and Placement Planning Meeting at the start of each rotation.
  • provide pastoral support. They can be your first contact to raise concerns.

For the duration of your programme, you will also have a GP Educational Supervisor (ES), who will be a GP Trainer. Educational supervisors are responsible for overseeing training to ensure that postgraduate doctors in training are making the necessary clinical and educational progress.

In addition, your ES will:

  • Meet with you throughout each of your training posts
  • Complete iESR or ESR each rotation
  • Provide feedback on your overall progress
  • Review your portfolio
  • Provide pastoral support
